Georgian NOC signed MoU

Today at the Georgian NOC headquarters President of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia L.Khabelov and the State Minister on the issues of diaspora Gela Dumbadze signed MoU. The Memorandum envisages establishment of collaboration between the State Ministry and the NOC promoting popularization of Olympism and Olympic sports among Georgian diaspora in order to identify talented athletes and ensure mass engagement of diaspora in the ‘Sport for All' movement.

‘Many of our compatriots live in the different countries worldwide and their support to Georgian sport is rather important. For instance, one of the largest diaspora is in Greece. I well remember Olympic Games in Athens when Georgia acquired first gold medals with an independent team. It was very impressive how Georgians residing in Greece cheered for our athletes. Now we will soon participate in the first European Games in Baku,furthermore, qualification tournaments have already started for Rio 2016 Olympic Games and it is important that our athletes have lots of fans cheering for them at this significant sport events. This MoU will ensure this issue along with other important aspects'- stated L.Khabelov.

‘ I would like to express gratitude to the Olympic Committee for expression of their willingness on establishing colleboration. Sport is very familiar to me and I personally always cheer for Georgian athletes. This Memorandum is very important for our Ministry as we should serve one goal and Georgian sport should unite us'- says Gela Dumbadze at the Press Conference.

At the end of the meeting NOC President handed over to the guest recently issued unique 5 volume publication of the OlympicCommittee ‘Five Rings for Georgia' prepared by the prominent journalist Paata Natsvlishvili .
