Women and Sport Seminar
From December 16, 2015 the Seminar "Women and Sport"took start at the NOC headquarters with the initiative of Georgian NOC and direct support of the IOC Olympic Solidarity. The Seminar was opened by Chair of the NOC Women and Sport Commission, NOC Vice President, Olympic Champion Mrs. Nino Salukvadze. The delegates were welcomed also by the first Vice President ElgujaBerishvili and Vice President MamukaKhabareli.
National Olympic Committee invited to the Seminar with the honorary guest's status first President of the NOC (1989-1996), at present Honorary President, 5-time world champion and 11 -time champion of chess Olympiads, international grand master, winner of the 25th World Senior Chess Championships Mrs. Nona Gaprindashvili.
Noteworthy is that presentations during the Seminar were made by the leading sport experts and experienced specialists from the NOC, the State University of Physical Culture and Sport, Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, organizations involved in gender equality issues and other lecturers. They covered all key topics connected with gender equality, women's problems, gender equality in Georgian sport, memorandum of understanding signed between the NOC and Journalists Network for Gender Equality, outcomes of the research conducted on gender equality and current obstacles existing in this field in our country and modern society in general. Key target groups of the Seminar were coaches, administrators, various sport specialists from the NSFs and other sport organizations, students and volunteers. The delegates revealed great interest to the topics covered and were actively involved in interactive discussions after each presentation.
The Seminar ‘Woman and Sport' attracted also great attention of mass media. TV and radio journalists took interviews from the organizers and covered the details via sport programs on TV and radio channels.
After wrap-up questions the delegates have unanimously adopted and approved Resolution which will serve as major guideline for the NOC and all organizations involved in this significant event to proceed active collaboration on gender equality issues in compliance with the principles of the IOC and EOC worked out on this topic with the purpose of further improvement of female involvement in sport and implementation of future perspectives.
