European Weightlifting Championships organized at the Tbilisi Palace of Sport was not productive for Georgian national team winning only a silver medal.

Our national team was represented at the Championships by 8 athletes. Among the athletes trained by the famous olympic champion Giorgi Asanidze, Irakli Turmanidze was the only weightlifter (+105 kg) who took place on the pedestal. Georgian weightlifter has accomplished successful lift during all his trials both in snatch and clean and jerk winning finally silver medal in snatch by lifting 201 kg.

Athlete started attempt with 225 kg gradually increasing to 231kg and 234 kg collecting total in allround 435 kg that was sufficient for winning the silver medal.
