The Bronze Era
Sambo athletes brought to the delegation three bronze medals at once at the Baku 2015 Games. Thus, considering acquired bronze previous day in rhythmic gymnastics by Saalome Pazhava, we can say that Georgian delegation is currently in the "bronze age".
Sambo athletes Vakhtang Chidrashvili, Kakha Mamulashvili and David Karbelashvili became medalists. The latter defeated in his 90kg match Kanan Gasimov from Azerbaijan. This tough fight in the host city required double sport stamina and moral power.
Kakha Mamulashvili (74kg) won the contest for bronze medal in the very decisive match over his Bulgarian opponent Martin Ivanov.
Vakhtang Chidrashvili (57kg) acquired clear victory in quarterfinal with Bulgarian Borislav Ianakov, however lost the match in semifinals with Islam Gasimov with 3:1 and continued fight for bronze winning finally over Romanian Do Gruya.
Noteworthy is that winners in two weight categories were awarded with medals by President of Georgian NOC Leri Khabelov.
Athletics competitions during Baku 2015 envisage only team events and no individual medals will be contended, but luckily Georgian athlete in long jump Bachana Khorava ranked first (7,64m), consequently entering the history of the European Games as author of the first record.
