Georgian team gained only 1 Bronze Medal at the World Judo Championship in Paris.

Despite the unfavorable casting of lots, Olympic and World Champion Irakli Tsirekidze did his best to win at least the Bronze Medal.

He defeated the athletes from Brazil, Japan and Iran but lost to Elko Wander Khest. In compensation fights he overdid Russian and Egyptian Judo wrestlers and gained his hard-earned Bronze.

In group competition Georgian team defeated Germany by the score of 3:2 but lost to the Koreans by the same score. In the consolatory round it lost to Japan and took the 5th place.
