Elected as GNOC President on 20 December 2012 at the elective-Reporting session of Georgian NOC. Olympic champion of the XXV Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling (1992, Barcelona), silver prize winner of the XXIV Olympic games (1988,Seoul), world fivefold champion (1985,87,90,91,93) and third prize winner(1995), European four times champion (1985,87,88,92), World Cup holder (1991), former USSR threefold champion (1985,87,88), Champion of the former USSR Peoples Spartakiads (1986). Leri Khabelov was one of the leaders of Georgian Olympic delegations at the Olympic Summer Games. During 2004-2007 he was First Vice President of the Georgian NOC. Recipient of V. Gorgasali II Grade Order of Honor. Since 2012 Leri Khabelov is member of the Georgian Parliament and Chairman of the Sport and Youth Parliamentary Committee.
