At the World Judo Championship that took place on October 8-9, in Baku, Georgian team participated in 10 weight categories; however, it managed to earn only one medal. Levan Zhorzholiani (100kg) put up a fine show; he defeated all his opponents and won a gold medal. He beat Azeri athlete Lafael Shahverdiev, New Zealander Jason Coster, Russian Askhab Kostoev and Iraanian Javad Mahjoub and earned 100 rating points along the medal.

Unfortunately, all other trainees of Coach Peter Zeizenbacher failed to reach prize-winning places.
