Manuchar Tskhadaia gained bronze medal
07 August 2012
27-year old wrestler Manuchar Tskhadaia added bronze medal to the Georgian Olympic delegation in London. The Greco-roman 66 kg wrestler from Khobi was among favorites.
He held four wrestles and won three of them with convincing victory. He lost only against Tamas Lorincz from Romania in semi finals.
Tskhadaia defeated Frank Stebler from Germany as well as his first two opponents - Pascal Strebel from Switzerland and Ashraf Mohamed Elgharably from Egypt.
During the first set against Strebel the first minute and a half went scoreless and the competition was renewed from parterre. Tskhadaia defended himself well and though he was lifted twice his opponent could not make a throw and therefore the set was won by the Georgian.
Tskhadaia did not make it to parterre in the second round. He made use of the move initiated by his opponent and took the lead by one point first and then by an addition point after Germans advanced their protest. Tskhadaia defended quite well in a standing position during the remaining period and finished the bronze medal wrestle in two sets.
This is the third medal for the Georgian Olympic delegation. Up to that moment the gold medal was won by the judoka Lasha Shavdatuashvili and the bronze medal went to a Greco-roman style wrestler Revaz Lashkhi
