The Target – Three Licenses

Georgia will definitely have athletes at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games in figure skating and alpine skiing, however it is tricky to make any prognosis on the number of licenses in the above sports. Elene Gedevanishvili will undoubtedly have no difficulties in getting qualified for the Games. She will soon compete at the World Championships in Canada (11-17 March). As far as the pairs are concerned- here we count on Otar Japaridze and Angelina Telegina.

On March 6, President of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation Maka Giorgobiani together with the above mentioned ice dance couple met Georgian NOC Vice President Mamuka Khabareli who coordinates at the Olympic Committee winter sports.

"It is clear that we can't expect top results at the winter Olympics, however we should make all our efforts to be represented as many athletes as possible and compete worthily. We count actually on figure skating and wish to have athletes both in singles and pairs. We will make our utmost to encourage you"- outlined Mamuka Khabareli during the meeting.

Maka Giorgobiani thanked Georgian NOC for the support and mentioned that they will try to justify our hopes.
Otar Japaridze and Angelina Telegina will have the most significant competition in Germany Obersdorf where the couple will contend for the Olympic licenses. The skaters ranked in the top five will obtain qualification for Sochi 2014.

Finally, noteworthy is that Georgian NOC allocated Olympic scholarships to Japaridze-Telegina's pair within the framework of the IOC World Programs for athletes "Sochi 2014" in order to facilitate their comprehensive training process for the Olympic Games.
