Better Than in Singapore!

25 June 2014

Nanjing, the city of 8 million population will host during 16-28 August the 2nd Youth Olympic Games. Although this big Forum lacks rich traditions being launched just 5 years ago, nevertheless the event has already gained great prestige among the sport fans.

The size of Georgian Olympic delegation has also increased since the YOG in Singapore where Georgia was represented only with 5 athletes. This time 12 Georgian athletes will strive for medals in Nanjing.

On June 25 President L.Khabelov and First Vice President E.Berishvili met at the Georgian NOC offices the athletes who qualified for the YOG. The meeting was attended also by the Deputy Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs T.Tevzadze.

The NOC President emphasized great importance of the Games pointing out also significance of the successful performance of our athletes for future perspective of Georgian sport.

" YOG in Nanjing is one of the priority events for Georgian NOC in the current Olympic cycle. It is actually similar to the Olympic Games, but for young athletes who are future Olympians therefore we should treat this Forum seriously. Our athletes in about 15 sports were trying hard to get qualifications and GNOC was beside them in acquiring as many licenses as possible. Someone may say that this number is not enough, but a defined selection criterion was complicated and we are satisfied with the 12 licenses obtained. Moreover, in Singapore we had only 5 athletes. Thus, I would like to wish you all successful Games and believe YOG in Nanjing will be more fruitful for Georgia with the number of medals" -stated the President.

With less than two months to go before commence of 2014 YOG the athletes undertake final preparations. During the meeting Leaders of the NFs, coaches and officials discussed specific training strategies and future plans. Georgian delegation will leave for Nanjing on 12th August.
