Born on March 29, 1925 in Poti. Freestyle wrestler (79 kg).

The first Georgian Olympic Champion (1952, Helsinki). Sevenfold champion of the USSR (1945, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952), and the second- (1954) and third-prize (1948) winner. Twofold second-prize winner of the USSR championship (1947, 1948) in Greco-Roman wrestling. The Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, the Honored Trainer of the USSR and Georgia. Holder of FILA Order, the Order with Honor and the Vakhtang Gorgasali II class Order.
