Third-prize winner of the XVIII Olympic Games (1964, Tokyo),  Third-prize winner of the World Championship (1967), Four-fold absolute European Champion (1962, 1964, 1965, 1966) and a two-fold second-prize winner  (1967, 1968), four-fold European Champion by team competition (1963, 1964, 1965, 1966), five-fold Champion of the USSR in Sambo (1961-1965), five-fold absolute wrestler of Georgia in Georgian-style wrestling (1959-1962, 1964). Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. Died in car accident.
