Played for Tbilisi "Dinamo" (1958-1974), member of the USSR national team (1960-1965), second-prize winner of the Rome Olympic Games (1960), third-prize winner of the World Championship (1963), European Champion (1961), Winner of the European Champions Cup (1962), Champion of the USSR (1968), three-fold second-prize winner (1960, 1961, 1969) and the third-prize winner (1965) of the USSR Championship, Winner of the USSR Cup (1969). He was named a "bird" for high jump and the ability to freeze in the air. Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of the Tbilisi State University (from 1997), Associate Professor, chevalier of the Order of Honor.
