Third-prize winner of the XV Olympic Games (1952, Helsinki), two-fold European Winner (1946-1950), Eight-fold Champion of the USSR (1939, 1943, 1944, 1946-1950), Four-fold second- (1951, 1952, 1954, 1955) and third-prize (1953) winner, Champion of the World University Games (1949), Three-fold World Record Holder (25 m in 1948-1953, 37m in 1951-1953, 04 m in 1952-1957 ). Her best individual result – 57,04m –used to be a world record before 1960 (she bet the world record four times in 1939, 1944 and 1946, however the USSR Athletics Federation was not a member of International Federation and therefore these results are not officially reported among the list of the official records). Best Athlete of Georgia of XX Century (bronze medal). Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.Recipient  of the VakhtangGorgasali III class Order.

World Champion (1965), second- (1969) and third-prize (1966) winner, third-prize winner of the XX Olympic Games (1972 Munich), Participant of the XVIII and XIX Olympics (1964 Tokyo – quarterfinals, 1968 – Mexico City – IV place), ten-fold USSR Champion (1963, 1964, 1966-1973), two-fold second- (1965, 1967- 1000m standing start time trial), and third-prize (1968 – flying 1000m time trial) winner, four-fold winner of the USSR Cup (1963-65, 69), Winner of the German Democratic Republic, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Tula International Tournaments. Twice World record holder: flying 200m time trial – 10,69 sec. and 10,61 sec.(1967). The Best Athlete of the Year of the USSR and Georgia (1965). Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. Honored Coach of Georgia. Coach of sprinters’ national teams of the USSR and Georgia (1974-1993), President of GeorgianCycling Federation(1986-1993). The Tbilisi Central  Velodrome is named after him. Acted in the Georgian movie “Khareba and Gogia” starring Khareba - one of the main characters.

Born on 07.11.1979 in Gori. Free-style wrestler (96 kg). Third-prize winner of the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008), World Champion (2001, representing Russia), second-prize winner (2006) and two-fold third-prize winner (2009, 2010), two-fold European Champion (2001, 2008), the second-prize winner (2010) and the third-prize winner (2006, 2007).Recipient of the Order of Honor.

Leila Meskhi

Born on 05.01.1968, Tbilisi, Tennis. First professional tennis player of Georgia. Third-prize winner of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games in doubles (together with Natalya Zvereva). Champion of the USSR (1989),ranked amongthe top twenty women players of the world in 1990-1991. The best world ranking position  - 12th (August 1991). Participated in 23 Grand Slam tournaments (won 33 out of 56 matches).Played Davis Cup 9 matches (5 representing USSR, and 4 representing Georgian team). Winner of 5 tournaments: Nashville (USA) – 1989; Oakland (New Zealand) and Moscow (USSR) – 1990; Wellington (New Zealand) – 1991; Hobart (Australia) – 1995. She won 223 matches out of total 357. Tennis Academy after her name was founded in Tbilisi in 1995. President of the Georgian Tennis Federation since 1998. Holder of the Order of Honor.

He was named a "bird" for high jump and the ability to freeze in the air. Honored Master of Sports of the USSR. Born on 22.01.1973 in Batumi. Greco-Roman wrestling (85 kg). Died in a car accident together with the Olympic Champion Avtandil Koridze.
